General Description

Nanny Brow ClappersgateNanny Brow sits peacefully on its own crag amongst 5 acres of partly wooded grounds with long majestic views along the river Brathay to the hills behind Tarn Hows and the high fells with Wrynose pass climbing up and over to the West. A short walk through semi ancient woodland takes you to a lookout to watch the sail boats on Windermere and a further pull takes you to Lily Tarn and miles of superb walks over Loughrigg fell. The house is an Arts Crafts gem built in 1904 by the distinguished architect Francis Whitwell who practiced with Guy Dawber in London, was a fellow of RIBA and later came to Ambleside to live in Nanny Brow as his family home. Built on the solid rock of Nanny Brow using traditional Lakeland stone, the house boasts gentle motifs of animals and flowers in the plasterwork with a lightness of touch so characteristic of the Arts Crafts movement and leaded oak windows facing the valley and the hills. We offer just 8 en-suite rooms along with a drinks licence, an elegant oak panelled lounge and five acres of sloping grounds to relax. Period furniture is offset by luxurious modern fabrics and bathrooms, sumptuous beds, wifi and digital television. The bedrooms are individually decorated and furnished most with stunning views. Award winning breakfasts at Nanny Brow are served in the original dining room, made from the finest ingredients the season and region have to offer. For the evening we can provide recommendations from a great range of eateries including pubs, bistros, restaurants and award winning fine dining hotels. But we haven’t introduced ourselves; We are Peter Susan Robinson and this is for us the culmination of 10 years of looking after guests (www.cranbournehousebandb.co.uk). We have sought to combine the relaxing air of a family home with the levels of comfort and service that you might expect from a luxury hotel so we can provide as little or as much support for your holiday needs as you might like
